The Symposium took place between 27 and 28 of June, within the 3rd Doctoral Congress in Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. Thirty six oral communications were presented by students of Masters and Ph. D. programs in Engineering Physics and Applied Physics. A posters session was also held.
The two first sessions were preceded by plenary talks by Professor Vítor Amaral, form University of Aveiro, and Professor Helena Braga. At the closing ceremony of the Congress, the best contributions to the Symposium were rewarded:
- Best 2 poster presentations: João M. Serra, Sara Sequeira, Ismael Domingos, Ana Oliveira, Ermelinda Maçôas, Susana Cardoso, Helena Alves and Diana Leitão. "Micropatterning Organic Single Crystals for Photonic Sensor Applications". Sandra Rodrigues, Joana Paiva, Paulo Marques, João Cunha and Pedro Jorge. "Trapping nanometer sized particles with optical fiber tweezers – a computational study".
- Best oral communication: Margarida Maia. "Thermoelectric Materials for new innovative devices: from nanoparticles to composites".
The Symposium organizer was Joana Espain, and the scientific committee was formed by 30 professors from Universities in Porto, Lisboa, Coimbra, Aveiro and Minho.
